Example Essay

Have you ever moved to a new city or country? Where you surprised by anything? Did you find anything particularly difficult to adjust to?

Texas is so differently, specially if you come from Puerto Rico. In 2007, I moved to Texas. I was in the 6th grade. Since I was little, I didn't pay attention to the change. To me it was fascinating , to travel to another country.

When I started school over there, it was so different. I met good friends. Actually, one of them helped me with my English; while I helped her with Spanish. I still keep in touch with her.

There were a lot of Mexicans. One day at school, I heard someone saying: 'te voy a chingar'. I opened my eyes so big, and asked why he is saying that. Well, for Mexicans; this means I'm going to bite you. People need to be careful about what they said, 'cause it might have a different meaning to others. Just like 'coger' and 'bizcocho', for Mexicans are bad words.

The second time I moved to Texas, wasn't that good. I was 16 years old and it was a drastic change. I already finished high school, so I was home all day. When the time was passing by, I become depressed. Since I wasn't adapting to we'll, I decided to move to Puerto Rico; at the age of 17.

Finally, when I arrived; just felt at home. Now I'm living with one of my oldest brothers. I'm going to college and my life is great. But of course I miss my family in Texas; specially my mom. Every time I get a chance, I go and visit them.
